AI Visibility Readiness Checklist
Use this checklist to establish technical eligibility and evidence quality before investing in ongoing AEO. No email is required.
1. Discoverability
- Priority URLs return a successful status and use one self-referencing canonical.
- Important pages are present in the XML sitemap and reachable through internal links.
- Primary content is available in rendered HTML, not only inside an image or interaction.
- CDN, WAF, and bot protection do not accidentally block the crawlers you intend to serve.
2. Crawler controls
- Googlebot access is reviewed for Google Search, AI Overviews, and AI Mode eligibility.
- OAI-SearchBot access is reviewed separately from GPTBot training preferences.
- PerplexityBot access and published IP guidance are reviewed when Perplexity discovery matters.
- Google-Extended is treated as a training and grounding control, not a Search ranking signal.
3. Answer quality
- Each priority page answers a specific buyer question early and then supports it with detail.
- Claims use original evidence, named examples, or links to reliable primary sources.
- Headings describe the content beneath them and key limitations are stated plainly.
- Important facts are current, internally consistent, and assigned to an owner for review.
4. Entities and structured data
- Organization, service, person, and contact facts match across the site and credible profiles.
- Structured data represents visible content and uses a relevant, supported schema type.
- Markup validates without assuming that validation guarantees a rich result or citation.
- No special AI schema, hidden FAQ content, or unsupported markup is used as a shortcut.
5. Measurement
- A stable set of representative buyer prompts is recorded before changes begin.
- Mentions, citation accuracy, cited URLs, and competitor sources are logged consistently.
- ChatGPT, Perplexity, and other referral traffic is tagged and reviewed in analytics.
- Visibility movement is connected to qualified conversions and pipeline, not screenshots alone.
